Funeral services for Ferdinand John "Fred" Siegel, 80, of Wharton, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner with Rev. Robert Knippenberg officiating. Burial will follow in Shiner Catholic Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, at Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner.
Mr. Siegel died Aug. 24, 2003. He was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Shiner to the late Jerome and Agnes Svatek Siegel.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Siegel worked in auto parts sales and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 87 and a life member of VFW Post No. 4474.
Survivors include wife, Dorothy Fojt Siegel of Wharton; daughter, Suzanne Russell of San Antonio; sons, Ferdinand Siegel II of Victoria and Paul Siegel of Lane City; brother, Charlie Siegel of Gonzales; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, John Siegel, Benjamin Siegel and Laddie Siegel.
