      Services for Joseph E. Miller, 77, of Rockdale, formerly of Smithville, were held Monday, March 24, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Gregory Hanks officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Smithville.
       
      Mr. Miller died Friday, March 21, at Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale.

       
      A Rockdale resident for the past 51 years, he was born Jan. 11, 1931, in Smithville to Paul Richard and Annie Mary (Matula) Miller. He married Jo Ann Tanecka on Nov. 17, 1953, in Smithville.  Mr. Miller worked in the potrooms at Alcoa. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Rockdale, Rockdale Knights of Columbus No. 7014 and Rockdale VFW Post No. 6525.

      Mr. Miller was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and he enjoyed gardening, playing poker, listening to country music, watching football and visiting his grandchildren.
       
      He was preceded in death by two sons, Ernest Paul Miller, on Oct. 21, 1955, and Michael Lane Miller, on Aug. 2, 1956; a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Miller, on Nov. 22, 1991; his parents; nine brothers, Ludvick, Ernest, Jack, Buck, Rudolph, Zeke, Bill, Kate and Richard D. Miller; and two sisters, Lera Schultz and Mattie Keller.
      Survivors are his wife, Jo Ann Miller of Rockdale; two sons, Gary Joe Miller of Taylor and Alan Dale Miller of Rosebud; four grandchildren, Jordan Lee Miller and Jarrett Lane Miller of Taylor, Chelsea Danielle Miller and Olivia Kaelyn Miller of Rosebud; a brother, Johnny Miller of Ventura, CA; two sisters, Millie Maio of Riverside, CA, and Louise Hannusch of Smithville.
      Pallbearers were Kevin Kelley, Mark Glenn, Vernon Tanecka, Jody Kadlecek, Raymond Hannusch and Steve Maio.
       
      Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Krenek, Glenn Rolan, Wilburn Walla, Adolph Zapalac and Raymond Lawson.
