obit: Adele Hlinstak Trchalek Stephenson
- Adele Trchalek Stephenson, the most loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed on into heaven on December 10, 2006 at the age of 92.Adele was born August 20, 1914 in Temple, Texas, Bell County, to Albina and Joseph Hlinstak. Her father died when she was only 15 months of age, and her mother later married Joe Chaloupka with whom Adele lived, up until she met and married Edward Trchalek on July 26, 1932. Her husband died on September 26, 1949, leaving her with six children to rear. After rearing her children, she married Leldon G. Stephenson on January 10, 1975, in Houston. She worked at many jobs, including taking in ironing and baby-sitting. Finally, after attending classes at Lee College, she was employe by the City of Baytown in the water department for 17 years until her retirement in November of 1976.
Adele was a long-time member of Central Baptist Church, where she was a nursery worker, caring for many of Baytown's current residents and community leaders.
Adele also had a green thumb, her picture appearing several times with her vegetables in the Baytown Sun.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Edward Trchalek; second husband Leldon Stephenson; Daughter Florine Trchalek; son Norman H. Trchalek, two brothers and four sisters.
Her survivors are her two sons, Edward J. Trchalek and wife Winnie of Baytown; Floyd Trchalek and wife Shirley of Baytown. Daughters are Evelyn Guidry and husband Charles of Baytown; Shirley Newton of Baytown; Avis Irby and husband Buddy of Mount Belvieu. A daughter-in-law, Virginia Trchalek of Carmel, Indiana also survives her. She is also survived by four sisters.
Fourteen grandchildren morning her loss are: David, Gary and Daryl Trchalek, Curtis, Kevin and Steven Guidry; Allison Newton; Brenda Roth; Barbara Stewart; Teri Thames, Tony Irby; Julie Moffitt; Amy Burkhardt and Tiffany Farrell. Twenty-nine great-grandchildren also survive her.
Her last two years were spent at St. James House, and all of the nurses and aides at Station 3 loved mom so much and called her mama, for which we will ever be grateful.
The family will receive friends on the evening of Tuesday, December 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Earthman Funeral Home, 3919 Garth Road, Baytown, Texas. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, also at Earthman Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Earthman Memory Gardens Mausolem, 8624 Garth Road. Her grandsons will be acting as pallbearers.In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to GOODFELLOWS through the Baytown Sun.
