The Bob Bullock State History Museum Presents

Forgotten Gateway: Coming to America Through Galveston Island explores the dramatic story of Galveston, Texas as a little known gateway to America that provided an entry point to over 100,000 immigrants between the mid-1800s and 1924. This story — of the promises made, kept, and broken — will be told through an array of historic photographs, oral histories, original artist renderings, primary documents, videos, and artifacts brought together for the first time in an exhibition that uses the experience of coming to America through Texas as a lens for public understanding of a shared national history. Visitors will be invited to share their own stories of migration and arrival; compare stories from one historical period to another; and weigh in on enduring questions of immigration throughout our nation’s history.

Admission to the Museum’s exhibits, including Forgotten Gateway (February 21 - October 11, 2009): $7.00 for adults, $6.00 for seniors/military/college students
(with valid ID), $4 for youth ages 5-18, free for ages 4 and under.

Support for this exhibit comes from The National Endowment for the Humanities; Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. & Helen C.
