Funeral services for Nolie Kulhanek Schobel, 85, of Columbus were held on Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 with Father Dan Kahlich.  Monsignor Michael O'Shaughnessy and Deacon Bennie Holesovsky officiating at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, with interment at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery.

She died on July 29 at Columbus Community Hospital.

Schobel was born November 28, 1922 in the Santa Anna Community to Albert and Annie Tomastik Kulhanek and married Robert L. Schobel, Sr. of Columbus, on June 26, 1940.  After living in Ellinger and Houston, they moved to Columbus and lived 60 years in Columbus.

She was a lifelong homemaker, and family and friends acknowledged her excellent cooking skills.  She was an avid hunter, bagging a deer each year until she reached her 80's.

She enjoyed playing dominoes and cards, and enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas.

When traveling was no longer possible, she took great pleasure in receiving "scratchoff's" and trying her luck with them instead.  She gave much love and good food to all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of St. Anthony's Cathlic Church and St. Anthony's Altar Society.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jo Ann and Jim Conner of San Antonio; her sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Mary Jane Schobel and Andrew and Donna Schobel of Columbus; sisters, Lillie Zapalac of La Grange and Margie Halfmann and husband Joe of Columbus; brother-in-law, Lester Schobel and wife Nora of Columbus and sister-in-law, Jonnie Mae Kulhanek, of La Grange; grandchildren, Bryan Weikel and wife Debra, Philip Weikel and wife Becky, Kristen Heffley and husband Steven, Nicole Schobel and husband Matt Gilger, Bo Schobel and wife Lyndsay, Ryan Schobel and wife Andrea, Aaron Schobel and wife June, Matt Schobel and wife Nicole, and Amanda Schobel; and by her great-grandchildren, Marina and Max Weikel, Mara and Anthony Weikel, Jacob and Makenzie Heffley, Dayne, Lainey, and Gracie Schobel, Maison, Drew, Hudson, and Thea Schobel, Brock, Erika, and John Schobel, and Tommy and Adam Schobel.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert L. Schobel, Sr.; son, Tommy Schobel; grandson, James Brad Weikel; sisters, Julie Kovar, Bessie Novosad, Claudia Schneider, Sidonia Baumbach, Laura Baca, and Gladys Dostal; and brothers, Robert Kulhanek and Jerry Kulhanek.

Memorials can be made to St. Anthony's School Trust Fund.

Henneke Funeral Home of Columbus was in charge of arrangements.
