      Allen R. Talas, 53 of East Bernard, died June 3 in East Bernard following an extended illness.
       
      A rosary was recited June 5 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard, and a funeral mass was held June 6 Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Father Don Ruppert officiating.  Burial followed in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in East Bernard.
       
      Pallbearers were his close friends and honorary pallbearers were his nieces and nephews.
       
      Mr. Talas was born on July 19, 1952 in East Bernard, son of the late Joe Frank Talas Sr. and Lucy Francis Orsak Talas.
       
      He was a life-long resident of East Bernard and a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard.  He graduated from East Bernard High School in 1970 and received a BS Degree in Agriculture from Sam Houston State University.  He married Elaine Faye Pelzel on September 30, 1978 in East Bernard and she preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2001.
       
      He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2500 in East Bernard.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
       
      Mr. Talas was also preceded in death by his father.
       
      Survivors include his mother, Lucy Talas of East Bernard; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce and Gary Eckelberg of Sealy, Yvonne Naiser of East Bernard and Patsy and Charles Verm of Sealy; brothers and sisters-in-law, James Talas of East Bernard, Joe Frank Talas Jr. and wife Linda of Hungerford and Kenneth and Angelia Talas of East Bernard; one godchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
       
      In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to Holy Cross Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1325, East Bernard, TX 77435.
       
      Funeral services were under the direction of the Wharton Funeral Home.
