Obit: Peter Marek
Peter Paul Marek Jr., 79, a lifetime resident of Louise, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008.
Known as Pete to all his family and friends, he was born on July 3, 1929 in Louise to Peter Marek Sr., and Pauline Hilscher Marek.
Pete served his country during the Korean conflict and was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., in 1951-52. He was a lifetime member of the KJT and served the organization as a local chapter officer for many years. During the 1970s Pete was elected to two terms on the Louise ISD Board of Trustees. In December 1994, Pete retired from Wharton County Precinct Three after 34 years of employment as a motor grader operator and road foreman.
Pete was an active member of St. Procopius Catholic Church and he spent many years serving as an usher at Sunday morning Mass. He was a member of American Legion Post 251.
Pete enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching old Westerns, and his daily visit with his coffee buddies. Pete also enjoyed the frequent vacation trips that he and Evelyn would take to the Smoky Mountains. He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the Texas Longhorns. Pete loved his wife, his children and his grandchildren, and he will be missed by all.
Pete is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Evelyn Supak Marek; daughters, Shirley Freeland and husband Dan of Houston, and Laurie Spalik and husband Joe of Pflugerville; son, Gary Marek and wife Ginny of Cistern; grandchildren, Peter, Gillian and Liana Marek of Cistern, and Amy Spalik of Pflugerville; sisters, Rosie Valigura of El Campo, Josephine Dornak of Louise, Mildred Chovanec and husband Victor of Victoria, and Lillian Vrana of El Campo; brothers, Robert Marek and wife Lillian of El Campo, and Marvin Marek and wife Carolyn of Aransas Pass; sisters in-law, Stella Marek of El Campo, Bernice Marek of Louise and Georgia Ledkins and husband Tom of Richmond; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Fred and Vlasta Supak; brothers, Felix, Vlad, Frank and Albert Marek; and brothers-in-law, Edd Valigura, Edwin Dornak, Frank Vrana and Norman Supak.
Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are his grandchildren, his nieces and nephews, his coffee buddies, and his old Precinct 3 co-workers.
Visitation will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at Triska Funeral Home. A rosary will follow at 7 p.m. today at Triska Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at St. Procopius Catholic Church in Louise with the Rev. Clement Quainoo officiating. Burial will be held at Louise Catholic Cemetery.
