      Pearl Kuretsch

      Mrs. Pearl Kuretsch, 86, of El Campo, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2008, at El Campo Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

      She was born in Marlin on July 16, 1922, the daughter of Herman Reinke and Hulda Dresner Reinke.

      Pearl was a life-long resident of El Campo and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Wharton. She was a homemaker, helped her husband farm, and was employed as a sales clerk for several retail stores in El Campo. She married Alvin Kuretsch on Feb. 4, 1946, in Wharton, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 3, 1998.

      Pearl enjoyed spending time with her friends and family, visiting at every opportunity.

      Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Steve Horak of El Campo, Jane and Ruel Wiley of Missouri City, and Ken Shanks of El Campo; grandchildren, Warren Wiley, Michael Wiley, Rachel Wiley, Ross Horak, Reid Horak and Grant Shanks.

      She was prececded in death by her parents; her daughter, Pamela Shanks; and sister, Elinora Wittig.

      Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wharton with the Rev. Barry Sharp officiating. Burial will follow at the Wharton City Cemetery.

      Pallbearers are Warren Wiley, Ross Horak, Reid Horak, Michael Wiley, Rachel Wiley and Ronald Wittig.

      Honorary pallbearers are Grant Shanks, Zelma Shelton, Tanda Hawkins, Fredrica Bullock, Cassandra Shelton, Melanie Watson and Alice Warzecha.
