      JOHNNIE KALIAN KOCIAN

      VICTORIA - Johnnie Kocian, of LaMarque, passed away Oct. 21, 2008 in Victoria. He was born July 8, 1933, in Lavaca County, to the late John and Annie Kocian.
       
      Johnnie retired from the United States Air Force as a senior master sergeant after 20 years of service and then spent 36 years in the postal service.
      During his 20 years in the Air Force, he served in several locals including Panama and Puerto Rico. Many of the years he served were spent on the Inspector General team inspecting strategic air command bases and their operations. He was active in his local Lions Club for many years as well as the Boy Scouts, seeing his son, Steven, attain Eagle Scout honors. Johnny was also active in fishing as a member of the Trinity Bay SALT club for many years and assisted in many charity tournaments. He was a vital member of the Warrior's Weekend event staff where he his wife Sally weighed in the fish our wounded soldiers caught. Johnnie truly loved Warrior's Weekend.

      Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kimberly Jo.
      He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Sally; son, Steven and daughter-in-law Audra; brother, Ron and wife Sherry; sister, Patsy and husband Joe Zak; sister, Sherry and husband Tommy; brother, Mike and wife Jan; sister, Debby and husband Byron; and brother, Pat and wife Sue. Also left to cherish his memory are a host of nieces and nephews.  Johnnie is also survived by his best friend and fishing partner, also a part of the Warrior's Weekend Weigh Master team, Ellis Perthius of La Marque.

      Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 24 and funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Rosewood Funeral Chapel. Services with military rights are to be conducted by his nephew, Pastor Matthew Powell, of The Crossings Church of Katy  Pallbearers will be Ellis Perthius, Ron Kocian II, John-Robert Kocian, Chris Janecek, Scotty Zak, Bubba Yardley, Tony Rodriguez, Mike Kocian II, Trey Ganem, and Adam Reynolds.  Honorary pallbearers are the members of the Warrior's Weekend Committee and past and present members of the Trinity Bay Chapter of the Saltwater Anglers League of Texas.

      Memorial contributions may be made to Warrior's Weekend, 3603 Miori Lane, Victoria, TX 77901; Friends of William Wood, c/o Linda Kucera, 1045 Hosek Rd., Victoria, TX 77905; or Hospice of South Texas.
