MANUELA "MAMIE" VAHALIKVICTORIA - Manuela "Mamie" Vahalik, 86, of Victoria, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 25, 2008. She was born July 19, 1921, in Karnes County to the late Jose and Manuela Muniz.
She was the last surviving sibling of Arnulfo, Tomas, Emilio, and Josefina Muniz Torres. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ben Vahalik.
Mamie moved her family to Victoria from Yorktown in the early 1950's. She valued a good education and encouraged all of us to do our best in school. It wasn't until adulthood that she enrolled in the Adult Basic Education. She loved to socialize with her church friends, loved to dance, and seldom passed on an opportunity to keep her grand and great-grandchildren.She will be missed by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her friend and partner, Ray San Miguel; daughters, Rosemary Salazar and Veronica (Melvin) Drabek of Victoria; sons, Abdon Marmolejo and wife Diana of San Antonio, and Domingo Sonny Marmolejo of San Antonio; six grandchildren, Betty Salazar of Victoria, Anna Miller, who took care of Mamie during her final days on earth, and her husband Dennis of Victoria, Pilar Stair and her husband Gary of Atlanta, Greg Marmolejo and his wife Heather Wood of Kansas City, Kan., Thomas Marmolejo of San Antonio, Candace Michelle Marmolejo of Austin; nine great-grandchildren, Austin O'Brien, Dakoda and Kalynne Drabek, Dylan and Hannah Miller, Noah Leal, Saira, Lorilei, and Olivia Stair.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2008 at Grace Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. at Grace Funeral Home with the Rev. Allen T. Coffey officiating. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the Runge Cemetery in Runge.
Pallbearers are Melvin Drabek, Dennis Miller, Gary Stair, Austin O'Brien, Dylan Miller Greg Marmolejo, and Thomas Marmolejo. Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandchildren, Dakoda Drabek, Kalynne Drabek, Noah Leal, Saira Stair, Lorilei Stair, Olivia Stair, and Hannah Miller.
