      James Michael Pratka
JAMES MICHAEL PRATKA, born July 22, 1947 in Houston, TX, died March 29, 2008, following a lingering illness with cancer. Mike was the son of the late Alfred Joseph Pratka, Sr.

He is survived by his mother, Julia Louise Pratka; son, Morgan Michael Pratka; brothers, Alfred, Jr., Gregg and Chris Pratka and sister, Patricia Pratka Womack and his twelve nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Renvia Capps Pratka.

Mike grew up along the Texas coast and gained a love of the outdoors through his family and many friends he developed over the years. Mike enjoyed these activities but his true passion was surfing. He began surfing at Galveston and Freeport during the early 1960's and remained active and well traveled throughout his life. He gained many longtime friends through his joy of surfing, and he was well respected both in the water and on the beach. In the late 80's and early 90's Mike began traveling to Mexico, finally moving there in 2000. This was a special place for Mike, providing a fulfilling life removed from big city stresses. For the last several years he appreciated the simple pleasures of the unspoiled beach and his ocean surroundings. He enjoyed hosting his many friends and family at this remote retreat and believed in sharing the beauty of a good day and the joy of a good wave. His kindness and creativity will be missed. Mike was especially appreciative of his family's efforts to help him during the latter stages of his illness. The family is grateful to the Ware family, Tammy, Monica, Kecia and Felicia Woodson for their loving care.

A Memorial Service will be held at St Anne Catholic Church, 2140 Westheimer Rd., on Saturday, April 5, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Father John Robbins officiating.

For those wishing to remember Michael, a donation may be made to Surfrider Foundation, Texas Chapter, P.O. Box 563, Liberty, Texas 77575.
