      MARJORIE ANN CHANEK

      VICTORIA - Marjorie Ann Chanek, 66, of Victoria, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2008. She was born March 7, 1941, in Hallettsville, the daughter of John and Olga Laake Haas.

      She was a very active member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was one of the founding members of Holy Family Choir and was a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of the DaCosta Polka & Waltz Club and the Country Western Dance Club. She was also active as a volunteer with VCAM. She retired in 1996 after 37 years as an executive secretary with Victoria Bank and Trust.

      She is survived by her husband of 46 years Emil Chanek of Victoria; her mother, Olga Haas of Hallettesville; daughters, Barbara Rychetsky and her husband Ronald of Calallen and Sharon Stipanovic of Round Rock; sisters, Charlene Pillow of Hallettville and Linda Upham of Victoria; brothers, John Haas Jr., Charles Haas, and Dennis Haas, all of Hallettsville, and Robert Haas of Victoria. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Karsen and Karli Stipanovic of Round Rock and Riley and Lacy Rychetsky of Calallen.
      She was preceded in death by her father, John Haas Sr., and her sister, Elrose Haas.

      Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today, with a rosary recited at 7 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family with the Rev. Greg Korenek officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Pallbearers include Ronnie Chanek, Glenn Repka, Bobby Stary, Brian Haas, Mike Fikac, and Chris Haas.   Honorary pallbearers include the "Lunch Bunch", members of Holy Family Choir, and all of her close friends.

      Memorials may be made to Holy Family Building Fund or Hospice of South Texas.
