      KAPAVIK, JOE FRANK, 75, of Lancaster , went to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 3. He died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, after a three-year struggle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on May 25, 1932 , near Ennis , Texas , the eldest son of Joe and Bessie Maliska Kapavik. On December 15, 1953 , he married Wilma Marusak Kapavik, bought a farm in Lancaster where she still resides, and there they raised four children. Besides his family, Joe's great love was farming, and he successfully developed a family farm business raising corn, wheat, milo, hay, cotton, and beef cattle. From 2000-2006, he represented his district on the State Board of the Texas Farm Bureau, lobbying for farm legislation and mentoring other farmers. His was one of five founding families of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Lancaster and he continued to be an active member. Being of Czech heritage, he loved polka dancing and a cold beer.

       

      Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Wilma, and his children: Sharon Lynne Perkins and her husband, Mike, of Dayton, Ohio; Ronald Joseph Kapavik and his wife, Brenda, of Hockley, Texas; Arlene Mary Roberts and her husband, Steven, of Kirbyville, Texas; and Brian David Kapavik and fiancee Sonja Ortega of San Jose, California; and eight grandchildren: Daniel Ross Kapavik, Bethany Gayle Perkins, April Michelle Combs, Paul Jameson Kapavik, David Warren Perkins, Alan Michael Combs, Stephen Ross Kapavik, Susan Ruth Perkins and Michaella Lavon Roberts. He is also survived by his six siblings: John Kapavik, Elizabeth Zabojnik, Mary Alice Warrington, Agnes Cinek, Frances Swafford, Helen Mahdak, brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.

       

      Visitation will be held beginning at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 5, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1537 Rogers Ave. , in Lancaster . Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 6, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis, followed by burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Ennis. Memorial donations in Joe's name may be made to the St. Francis Building Fund., Byrum Funeral Home 425 North Dallas Avenue Lancaster (972) 227-2121
