Re:Moravian Burial Practices
- thank you for this information.in the moravian practice you"buy" the plot so you shouldalways be able to find yourancestor. this helps.my husband is going to germanyin february. it will be interesting tolearn if he finds his g-g-g-grandparentsgraves. i am betting they werereused but hope for the best.in new orleans on a cemetery tour, the guide told us the vaults are reused.after one year and one day, the vaultis opened, bones pushed back, andanother dead family member is insertedin the family vault. if some familymember dies before the year is up,they are kept (i did not ask where)until they can be inserted. theyare buried above ground.if you "buy" a plot be sure to get thetitle. if you "lease" a plot be sure toget the lease. then you will knowif you "own" the grave. of course, landdevelopers, etc. have cleared off many oldcemeteries. so, buying or leasingdoes not apply.thank all of you for your explanations.angelina genzer kretzschmar
