      my husband is going to germany
      in february.  it will be interesting to
      learn if he finds his g-g-g-grandparents
      graves.  i am betting they were
      reused but hope for the best.
       
      in new orleans on a cemetery tour,
      the guide told us the vaults are reused.
      after one year and one day, the vault
      is opened, bones pushed back, and
      another dead family member is inserted
      in the family vault.  if some family
      member dies before the year is up,
      they are kept (i did not ask where)
      until they can be inserted.  they
      are buried above ground.
       
      if you "buy" a plot be sure to get the
      title.  if you "lease" a plot be sure to
      get the lease.  then you will know
      if you "own" the grave.  of course, land
      developers, etc. have cleared off many old
      cemeteries.  so, buying or leasing
      does not apply.
