      Marcella B. Akkola
MARCELLA B. (SALLY) AKKOLA passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Dec.1, 2007. Born to Frank and Justina Machac on January 16,1922, she was the youngest of 13 children. She grew up in Flatonia, Galveston and Houston, but left Texas after she married Toivo L. (Toby) Akkola on February 20, 1943, and began a life of adventure as an Air Force wife. She traveled the world after son, Dennis, was born in San Antonio. Daughter, Sandra, was born in San Bernadino, California, and daughter, Gail, arrived in Augsburg, Germany. Sally was the heart of a busy family, a devoted wife, and best friend to so many. Sally and Toby retired to Oklahoma City and, after 24 years of moving, bought their first permanent home. "Thimble Ranch" (five acres) was purchased later and offered an opportunity to escape the city and spoil six grandchildren. Sally moved back to San Antonio four years ago to be closer to family as her health declined. A widow since 1989, she leaves behind her three children, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren who mourn her passing but share relief that she is at peace. She is also survived by her eldest sister, Eleanor, and many dear friends and relatives who so enriched her life. Honoring her request, there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made to the Sarah Matheson Trust for Multiple System Atrophy, St. Mary's Hospital, Praed Street, London, W2 1 NY.
