      SHINER - Eugene Leo "Gene" Targac, 65, of Shiner, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007.  Gene was born in Yoakum on Oct. 24, 1941 to the late Louis and Rose Stavarek Targac.
      He was a retired instrument fitter for Brown & Root at Union Carbide's Seadrift plant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, KJT, and the American Legion.

      Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Mendel Targac of Shiner; daughter, Tammy Lee Ashorn, husband Michael, and their children Matthew, Tyler and Lindsey, all of League City; two brothers, Frank Targac and wife Mildred of Shiner and Gus Targac and wife Jeanie of Moulton; two sisters, Mary Jane Patek and the late Gus Patek of Shiner and Margaret Barton and husband Leon of Round Rock; stepbrother, Sam Jahn and wife Mori of Lawrence Kan.; two stepsisters-in-law, Maggie Jahn and Geraldine Jahn of Yoakum; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his stepmother, Hattie Kubenka Jahn Targac; three brothers, Louis, Henry and Victor Targac; two sisters, Irene Matias and Rose Ann Chaney; and two stepbrothers, Rudolph and James Jahn.

      Pallbearers: Stanley Matias, Anthony Patek, James Barton, Frank Targac Jr., Wes Pennington, and Eric Rother.  A rosary will held tonight at 7 p.m. at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Shiner.
      Services will be Saturday March 17, 2007 at 10 a.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Fr. Frank Lenz officiating. Burial will follow on Saturday at 2 p.m., in Victoria, at Resurrection Cemetery, Deacon Joey Targac officiating.\
