      KATHERINE MARY WOKATY

      Katherine Mary (Whittington) Wokaty died Nov. 21, 2006 in Victoria, at the
      age of 82. She was born Oct. 13, 1924, in San Antonio, to the late Archie L.
      and Annie (Hosek) Whittington.
      She graduated from Patti Welder High School in 1941. She has been on the
      reunion committee since 1991. Alton L. Wokaty and Katherine M. Whittington
      were married in Victoria on April 22, 1950. She is survived by a son, David
      Glenn Wokaty. Her husband preceded in death on Jan. 15, 1999.

      She was a secretary/treasurer of Victoria County REACT, financial secretary
      for SPJST Lodge No. 32, president of District VI SPJST, State Reporter and
      Publicity Chairman. of the State Czech Heritage Society of Texas in 1986 &
      1987. She is a Charter member of Victoria County Czech Heritage Society,
      joining in 1984. She served as the chapter's first Reporter & Publicity
      Chairman.

      She chaired the Lesikar-Shiller Reunion for two years. Katherine was
      responsible for erecting two historical markers; New Ulm Cemetery in Austin
      County and Shillerville Cemetery in Victoria County in 1988, respectively.
      She served as President of the Shillerville Cemetery Association for 10
      years. In 1991, she wrote and published "The Shillerville Story, the Czech
      Community of Victoria County", a concise history of 21 families who were
      friends and neighbors of her great-grandfather, Josef H. Shiller. Work on a
      second book, "Frantisek Silar, Historian & Poet" is not yet complete.

      A memorial service was officiated by Deacon Dick Wearden at Grace Funeral
      Home on Dec. 1, 2006. A private burial will take place on a later date at
      Shillerville Cemetery. Special thanks to Dr. David Peters and to the nurses
