EMILY BOWER ONAK, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully of leukemia at Houston Hospice on Thursday March 30, 2006.
She was born on January 30, 1925 in Lexington, North Carolina to Mr. and Mrs. John C. Bower. Emily graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1946. In the late 1940's she relocated to Dallas, Texas where she met her husband, Daniel Onak. The couple were married on December 2, 1950 and relocated to Houston.
Emily was preceded in death by her brother John C. Bower, Jr. and her sister Virginia Bower Wray. Emily is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Onak, of Houston, Texas, son Mark Onak of Bellaire, Texas, daughter Diane Onak of Sugar Land, Texas, son Joel Onak of Sugar Land, Texas, daughter Mary Onak of Austin, Texas, son-in-law David Gomez of Austin, Texas, grandchildren Carl Onak of Houston, Texas, Danny, RJ, and Kathleen Wallen of Austin, Texas, Michael Onak of Sugar Land, Texas, step-grandson Patrick Gomez of Houston, Texas, brother and sister-in-law Joel H. and Kathryn Bower of Charlotte, N.C., and many nieces and nephews.
The family plans to have a private service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials in Emily's name be directed to the American Red Cross or to the American Cancer Society.
