Spring meeting Czech Heritage SocietyJust a reminder --The Czech Heritage Society of Texas (CHS) will hold its annual spring meeting in Hallettsville on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Highway 77 South. The spring meeting is being hosted by the Lavaca County Chapter. During the meeting, the annual competition for the young lady to represent the state of Texas at the national Miss Czech-Slovak pageant in Nebraska will be held. This competition will include personal interviews with judges, talent presentations, public interviews with the pageant master of ceremonies, and modeling of the national costumes or "kroje".
Registration for the CHS meeting will begin at 8 AM. Pageant competition begins at 10 AM. Guest speaker for this year's meeting will be Mr. Leon Pesek, Sr., author of The Lamp Beside the Golden Door. The author will have his book available for sale and will autograph it for you.
During the meeting, winners of the state essay competition will read their winning essays and receive their awards.Lunch will be served at noon. The Czech Heritage Society business meeting will begin at 1 PM. The winner of the queen's contest will be announced at the end of the business meeting.There will be a silent auction, music and plenty of food. The traveling library of the CHS will be available for genealogy research
