New Czech Bagpipe Documentary Film & Bagpipe Presentation

The Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange invites you to a
special program on the tradition of the Czech bagpipe on Sunday, March 19th
at 2:00 P. M. at the Pavilion on the Fayette County Fairgrounds.

There is no charge for this opportunity to learn about the Czech bagpipe and
to meet the Czech-American bagpiper, Michael Cwach and the film maker, Jefe
      Brown, a Texas native

CALL OF DUDY (2006, www.callofdudy.net), the first and only full-length
documentary film on the Czech bagpipe tradition now on DVD, will be screened
along with a Czech bagpipe presentation in Texas Czech communities from mid-
to-late March as part of a Texas state tour by its filmmakers.

Fresh off the success of a Midwest tour, Czech-American bagpiper Michael
Cwach and Texas-native, Prague-based filmmaker Jefe Brown will visit
approximately 15 Texas towns in presenting the new documentary film CALL OF
DUDY (“dudy” means bagpipes in Czech).

Mr. Cwach, a recipient of a Fulbright scholarship to study the bagpipe
tradition of the Czech lands, will make a presentation to contextualize the
musical and cultural history of the bagpipes, showing rare photos and
postcards from the Czech Rep. as well as from early Czech settlers in the
USA. He will also sing and play.

Jefe Brown’s new documentary film CALL OF DUDY (52 min) will then be
screened with Q & A to follow. This film captures the people and places
which are keeping the region’s centuries-old bagpipe tradition alive today
      and for future generations.

Bagpipes (“dudy” in Czech) are generally associated with the Celtic Fringe
of Europe, but one of the richest and most ethnically diverse bagpipe
traditions can be found in Central Europe, especially in the Czech Lands and
      neighboring Bavaria.
