Anna Baumruk Matusek, 81, of Columbus , died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006 in the River Oaks Health Care Center. She was born on Dec. 28, 1924 in El Campo, daughter of Frank and Antonia Liska Baumruk.
Mrs. Matusek was raised in El Campo and was a 1941 graduate of El Campo High School. She attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State Teachers College with her Master of Education and English. She married Sylvester Steve Matusek on June 18, 1960 in El Campo. He preceded her in death on November 24, 1996. Mrs. Matusek was employed as a teacher with various school districts including, El Campo, Crescent, Tidehaven and Blessing before her retirement in 1990. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bay City and the KJZT in Taiton.
Funeral mass services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Father Henry Rachunek officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at the Wharton Funeral Home. Friends may call for visitation from 6 until 9 p.m. at the Wharton Funeral Home on Friday, Feb. 3.
Survivors include her sister, Mary B. Greer of San Antonio ; and numerous nieces, nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; sisters, Adela B. Peoples and Dorothy B. Cerny.
Pallbearers are William Greer, Cole Broskay, Mark Matusek, James Matusek, Bennie Matussek, Jr. and Michael Dworaczyk.
