Alfred H. "Sonny" Barton, 68, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006. He was born in Burnet County, Texas, to Alfred Herman and Ruby Mary Livingston Barton of Bertram, Texas. He managed grain elevators and worked in Forestry as a firefighter before going into the feed store business with his father-in-law, James McDonald. Later he assumed ownership of what was known as Barton's Feed Store. After retiring from the feed business he joined the food store business with his wife at Dick's Food Store. He was also in the cattle business. He was an active member of the Texas Cattlemen's Association and Riverside Country Club. He was active in the Victoria Horseman's Club. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church, and served in the United States Army. He received the Agriculture Survey Award from Agriculture Commissioner Rick Perry. Sonny enjoyed vacationing with his wife Karen, visiting with his children and grandchildren and playing golf with his buddies.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Karen Hyak Barton of Victoria; children, Donna Barton Pahmiyer and husband, Robert, of Cypress, Michele Barton Matthews and husband, Mike, of Austin, Wade Barton of Sabinal, Kelly Keag Aldis and husband, Brent, of LaVernia, Leslie Keag Soucek and husband, Tim, of Katy, Lauren Keag and Colin Keag, both of Victoria; grandchildren Lauren and Brooke Pahmiyer, Brandon and Weston Matthews, Daniel and Dustin Barton and Shelby and Grant Salas; a brother, Larry Barton and his wife, Kay, of Luling.
Sonny was preceded in death by a daughter, Kimille Kay Barton.
Funeral Services will be 9:30 A. M. Thursday, February 2, 2006, at First United Methodist Church, Dr. J. Jason Fry officiating. Graveside services will be 3:30 P. M. Thursday at Shady Grove Cemetery in Burnet County, Texas.
Pallbearers will be Mannon Mints, Billy Dale Garber, Joe Beaver, Scott Kuester, Dwain Garber, John Riggs, David Schneider, and Ronnie Hyak.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Drs. Hassan Sabbagh, William Campbell and Robin Adams, Randy Carroll, Daniel Golden and Marvin Sievers, the Pulmonary Rebab Staff at Citizens Health Plex, nieces and nephews, Luke, Clay, Anna and Mary Barton, Ron and Melanie Hyak.
