      Millie M. Petras, 88, long-time resident of the Mullins Prairie area, died Thursday, Jan. 20 in Schulenburg.

       

      Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 24 at 10 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Holman with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Tim Kosler officiated.

       

      Born Nov. 10, 1916 in Weimar , she was the daughter of Joe B. and Emilie (Schindler) Kainer. She married Edward Petras Nov. 10, 1936 in Weimar . He preceded her in death in 1952. She ranched and owned and operated Millie’s Kountry Kitchen. She worked for Consolidated Frozen Foods at one time.

       

      Survivors include one daughter, Jo Lynn Petras of Austin ; one son, Dennis Petras of Houston; one brother-in-law George Petras and wife Hilda of La Grange; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Kainer of Weimar and Amanda Petras of La Grange .

       

      She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three sisters, Adela Berger, Tillie Bullard, and Elsie Kainer; and by two brothers, Edgar Kainer and Bennie Kainer.

       

      Memorial contributions are suggested to Alzheimers Association or to St. Mark’s Medical Center .

       

      Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home of La Grange was in charge of arrangements.

        (Granger) Mrs. Mary Michalek Knapek,97 of Granger, died Easter Sunday, at
        Johns Community Hospital in Taylor. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Mausoleum. Mrs. Knapek was born in Czechoslavakia. She was a member of the SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Granger, the KJZT and St. Flora's Altar Society. Ms. Knapek was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son Johnny, an infant daughter Alice, three brothers and one sister.
        Survivors include:
        1 daughter :             Mary Ann Strmiska of Granger
        4 sons:                     Frank and wife Adella of Thrall
                                         Louis and wife Blanche,
                                         George and wife Linda,
                                         Joe and wife Virginia, all of
        Taylor
        daughter-in-law:      Tonie Knapek of Granger
        4 sisters:                 Agnes Stojanik of Granger
                                         Georgia Mikulencak of Granger
                                         Frances Klepac of
        Bay City
                                         Evelyn Demirsu of
        Lafayette, LA
        1 brother:                Johnny Michalek of Granger

        grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren,6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survived.
        Providence Funeral Home of Taylor is in charge of arrangements.
