      WHARTON - Gladys Victoria Brandt Kurtz, 84, of Wharton, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004.

      She was born May 29, 1920, in Wharton, to the late Ed and Lillie Janssen Brandt. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.

      Survivors: daughters, Carol Lee Campbell of Houston and Marie Vincent of Friendswood; sons, Frank Allen Kurtz of Pearland; sister, Doris Giesalhart of Poth; brother, Arthur Brandt of Houston; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

      Preceded in death by: husband, Leroy B. Kurtz; brothers, Walter Brandt, Alfred Brandt and Ed Brandt; and two grandsons.

      Visitation will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday at Wharton Funeral Home.

      A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

      Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

      Burial will be at Wharton City Cemetery. Wharton Funeral Home, Wharton, 979-532-3410.

        GLADYS VICTORIA KURTZ, died Saturday, November 27, 2004. She was born on May 29, 1920 in Wharton, TX, the daughter of the late Ed and Lilly Janssen Brandt. Gladys married Leroy B. Kurtz on December 24, 1941 in Wharton. Gladys was a wife, mother and homemaker for the last sixty-two years. They lived in Houston for forty-one years, returning to Wharton in 1982. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy on April 22, 2004. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. Gladys, our mama, was a cherished member of her entire family. She always greeted you with a smile, a kiss and a hug. Her strength came from her bond and personal contact with her family and friends. Her grand and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy B. Kurtz; grandsons, Aaron Frank Kurtz and Jeffrey Lee Graves and brothers, Walter Brandt, Alfred Brandt and Ed Brandt. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Lee Campbell and husband, Dennis of Houston, TX and Marie Vincent and husband, Rick of Friendswood, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Frank Allen Kurtz and wife, Becky of Pearland, TX; sister, Doris Giesalhart of Poth, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Ida Brandt of Houston; brother-in-law, Lloyd Kurtz of Wharton; sister-in-law and dear friend, Josephine Brandt of El Campo, TX; sister-in-law, Muriel Brandt of Illinois; grandchildren, Donna Lott and husband, Billy, Kim Campbell, Josh Graves and wife, Amy, Julia Vincent, Andy Smith, Amy Kurtz and Cristy Lujan and husband, Jorge; great grandchildren, Brian Lott, Ashley Lott, Karsen Graves, Carli Graves, and Jorge Lujan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 2, 2004 at Wharton Funeral Home with Deacon Alvin Matthys officiating. Interment will follow in the Wharton City Cemetery. A rosary service will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at Wharton Funeral Home. Friends may call for visitation from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Sonny Kurtz, Roy Kurtz, James Bruce, Wayne Brandt, Glenn Brandt, Ray Kacer, Bert Lee Hosea, and Robert Newlin. Honorary pallbearers are James Turner, Marcus Melnar, Sonny Giesalhart, Larry Brandt, and Bill Hudgins.         Note: Two of my grandmother's sisters were this woman's sisters in-law, as they married Leroy Kurtz's brothers Charlie and Warren Lloyd.
