      Cerny, Jerome T.

      Jerome T. Cerny, 75, of Sugar Land, died peacefully in the arms of his family on Monday, Oct. 25, 2004 at his residence after a two year battle with lung cancer. Jerome was born Nov. 14, 1928 in Wallis.

      He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank W. and Louise Dusek Cerny.

      He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Aurelia Janik Cerny; daughter Debbie Tuftee and husband Brian, of Kerrville, daughter ReneƩ Palmer and husband Brad, of Sugar Land; son Tim Cerny and wife Maria, of Sugar Land; daughter Melissa Arteaga and husband Gus, of Sugar Land; son Jeff Cerny and wife Denielle, of Irvine, Calif.; grandchildren James and Jill Palmer, Ty Cerny, Dillon and Gracie Arteaga, all of Sugar Land, and David Cerny of Irvine, Calif.

      He is also survived by his sister, Mary Palmieri of San Antonio; his brother, Sam Cerny and wife Frances of Wallis; and numerous nieces and nephews.

      Jerome was an active member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land. He was a life-long member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4204, the Sugar Canes, and the K.J.Z.T. Society. He was involved with the Czech Heritage Society and the Po.L.K. of A. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 200 in Wallis.

      Pallbearers include brother Sam Cerny of Wallis, nephew Dennis Palmieri of Missouri City, great-nephew Paul Cerny of Wallis, and dear friends Ted Kaspar of Brazoria, Ed Borski of Sugar Land, and Allen Sell of Sealy.

      A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2004 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church in Sugar Land. The funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004 at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, with burial at 1:30 p.m. at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Wallis.

      Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Knesek & Sons Funeral Home in Wallis. 979-478-6311.
