      LOUIS J. HICKL, SR.

      A rosary for Louis J. Hickl, Sr., 80, will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
      Oct. 9 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held
      at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with
      the Rev. Charles Dwomoh officiating, Interment will be at at St.
      Peter's Catholic Cemetery in Blessing. Rosary was held 7 p.m.,
      Tuesday, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church. He died Monday, Oct. 8.
      Mr. Hickl was born July 17, 1913 in Sealy to the late John and Julie
      Hickl. He died Oct. 8, 2001. A veteran of World War II, he served
      with the U.S. Army in the Southwest Pacific Theatre and at Guadacanal
      from 1941 to 1945, receiving two Bronze Stars. Following his
      discharge from the Army, he married Edith Vacek. His work career
      consisted of radio repair work with Bill Holub from 1945 to 1950;
      operator for America Petrafina from 1950 to 1957; and a carpenter
      with Eugene Harvey from 1957 to 1976. He was also a rancher and
      farmer. He was a member of the VFW, KJT, American Legion and Knights
      of Columbus. For 16 years, he was a director for Matagorda County
      Drainage District III. From 1954 to present, he devoutly participated
      as a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Parish. Survivors include his
      wife of 56 years, Edith; sons, Louis Jr. and wife Sandra, Dennis and
      wife Donna; Father Bob Hickl, OMI; Pat and wife Cheryl, and Gary and
      wife Polly; daughters, Carolyn Kubecka and husband Ronnie, and Mary
      Ann Shimek and husband Troy; brothers; August, Jessie, Joe and
      Lawrence Hickl; sister: Louise Saha; 19 grandchildren and one great-
      grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; brothers,
      Willie, John and Edward Hickl; and a sister, Annie Holub. Pallbearers
      are Ed Hickl, Jr., John Hickl, Jr., E.R. Vacek, J.D. Tomasak, Gilbert
      Saha and Leo Orsak. Memorials may be made to Hospice of El Campo,
      1102 N. Mechanic, El Campo, Tx. 77437; or to Oblate Missions, P.O.
      Box 96, San Antonio, Tx. 78291. Arrangements are with Palacios
      Funeral Home.
