CHARLES J. MATULA
Charles J. Matula, of Runge, passes away Monday, March 22, 2004. He
was 96 years, 9 months and 23 days.
Charles was born May 28, 1907 in Sweet Home, Texas. He married Helen
Young Matula on January 28, 1942. He lived most of his live in Runge.
He owned and operated Matula's Meat Market in Runge for over 40
years, making their own sausage and BBQ sauce which found it's way to
the Kennedy Whitehouse in the early 60's. He served in Patton's 3rd
Army in WWII, was in D-day, Battle of the Bulge, and other campaigns
until the end of the war. He was Baptist by faith.
Charles is survived by his son, Michael (Judy) Matual of Austin and
one granddaughter, Grayson Camille Matula.
Preceded in death by his wife, Helen Young Matula; father, Frank
Matula, Sr.; mother, Agnes Michna Matula; brother, William Matula;
half-sister, Cecila Matula; half-brothers, Henry Matula, John Matula,
and Frank Matula, Jr.
Visitation was held at 3 p.m. at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Runge.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in
Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Runge with Rev. Cheryl Archer.
Burial followed in the Runge City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers
were Dennis Iley, Jay Templeton, Bobby Alexander, Homer Lott, Jr.,
Roy Liska, Tony Martinez and Jack Steves.
