From 11 News Staff Reports
Brazoria County Sheriffs detectives have arrested a man accused of
stealing an airplane and crashing it into a field.
Louis Paul Kadlecek, 21, faces a third-degree felony for stealing the
small airplane from the Brazoria County Airport Sunday morning. He
crashed it into power lines minutes after takeoff, but walked way.
Tips from the public led deputies to Kadlecek after a two-day manhunt
went on. Detectives say he surrendered without incident and confessed.
He had taxied one airplane around the airport, just taking it on a ride
around the airport, said Chief Deputy Charles Wagner from the Brazoria
County Sheriffs Department.
He brought it back, parked it, got into this one and was just taxiing it
around the airport when all of a sudden he said, why not go for it? He
revved the engine up and he thought it was revved up enough. He pulled
back on it and it took off. Taking off is not that hard. Its getting
down thats the problem.
Investigators say, Kadlecek had never even been in an airplane before,
and had been drinking late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning.
Investigators also say they found an 18-pack of cold beer and an opened
owners manual inside the airplane.
Kadlecek is expected to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Brazoria County.
