      Hilbert J. Bludau

      Mr. Hilbert Joseph Bludau of Hallettsville, died January 31, 2004, at the
      age of 87. He was born December 25, 1916 to Ben & Emilia Woitaske Bludau,
      the eldest of 11 children. He went to Sacred Heart School until the 9th
      grade and then to Hallettsville High School where he graduated in 1934, He
      also attended Blinn College in the 1950's. Hilbert married Agnes Elizabeth
      Haas on November 19, 1940 at Sacred Heart Church. He did carpentry for his
      dad, worked for the U.S. Agricultural Stabilization Commission's farm
      program as a clerk, and was drafted in the U.S. Army in November 25, 1944.
      He was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany with the 7th Army Group Billeting
      Section and received the Europe/Africa/Middle East Campaign Medal with one
      bronze battle star, Good Conduct Medal, one Overseas Service Bar, and
      Victory Ribbon. He worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. from 1947 to
      1950. From 1951until retirement in 1981 he was employed with the U.S. Postal
      Service. After retirement he was employed for 15 years as a part-time
      attendant with Kubena Funeral Home. Hilbert also enjoyed his paper route of
      17 years delivering the Victoria Advocate, Houston Post, Houston Chronicle,
      and San Antonio Light. Very active in church organizations, Hilbert was
      president of the St. Joseph Society, the first president of the Catholic
      Life Insurance Union, member of the a Knights of Columbus, Grand Knight in
      1961-62, and Hilbert was Knight of the Year in 1961. He was also a member of
      the American Legion Post and chaplain of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
      A life long master gardener who enjoyed sharing vegetables with friends and
      neighbors. He took great pride in his home and was happiest when it was full
      of visitors. Hilbert was well known and respected throughout the
      Hallettsville area. He enjoyed meeting people and was known for his
      friendliness, generosity, and pleasant humor. Survived by: wife of 63 years
      Agnes; 3-daughters Imelda Orsak and husband Marvin, Lois Nelson and husband
      Mike, Maureen Schott and husband Gene; 6-sons Gerald Bludau and wife Kathy,
      Hilbert Bludau Jr. and wife Kathy, Kenneth Bludau and wife Barbara, Mike
      Bludau and wife Cindy, Marty Bludau and wife Debi, and Richard Bludau;
      9-grandsons Chris, Jeremy, Ryan, Greg, Danson, Dodge & Reese Bludau, Jordan
      Schott, and Tyler Nelson; 9-granddaughters Lee Ann Evensen, Kim Saddler,
      Jaclyn Adamek, Heather Zamykal, Erin Schott, Kelly, Christine and Janelle
      Bludau, and; 3-great-grandchildren Katie Saddler, Josh and Kyle Evensen.
      Preceded in death by: parents, 3-brothers, and 1-sister.
      Service: 11am, Monday, February 2, 2004 at Sacred Heart Church in

      Visitation: Noon, Sunday at Kubena Funeral Home.

      Rosaries: 7pm, Sunday at Sacred Heart Church, and 10:30am, Monday at Sacred
      Heart Church.

      Memorials: Diocesan Seminar Fund or Sacred Heart School of Hallettsville.
