attendance at the 1st Hodslavice Reunion. It was decided to hold the reunion
again next year. I've attached a picture of some of the attendees. Some of
the wives, who were not descendents from Hodslavice, stayed out of the
picture. Leon Anheiser was our official photographer for the event.

Do you think the folks in the picture would mind if you gave us their names? I have relatives in that area but, can t tell if any are pictured. Thanks, George

                  Judy,

Yes, I am with you about having a Hovezi reunion.  What I have read in the past that Plum, north of La Grange was to have been settled by a group of persons from Hovezi.

Four years ago, while attending a CSIGS Genealogy conference in Houston one evening a regional group tables were formed to meet persons from a given area.  Several of us had relation from Hovezi.

I visited my father’s father BOROS family line in Hovezi in 2001 and 2005. The first time, I was shown the family cemetery plots; on the second trip I attended church service.

There is a recent village book published on Hovezi which Arnold Pechal had for viewing at the CHS state meeting at Caldwell and the following week at the TCGS meeting at Caldwell . In the back sponsor pages, the cousin has a block advertisement.

Like to hear from anyone who has connection to Hovezi.

                        Judy,

I’m sorry I am just getting around to responding to your email. If you want a reunion, just start one. We attached it to the Hegar Family Reunion that is traditionally held on the last Sunday in July. Since it had already been started, we just connected to it. It is interesting to see how many people we have reached and how many of us never knew we were related, but are. I really missed attending the reunion this year.  Good luck!

We had a small crowd at the Hodslavice Reunion, but I was able to connect several families to the group! I can trace their family back to the 1600’s in Hodslavice. Go ahead and mark your calendar for the last weekend in July (25th and 26th) for the 2009 Hodslavice Reunion . The actual reunion is on Sunday with a golf tournament on Saturday.

The Hegar family hosts a charitable golf tournament for Caritas on Saturday before the reunion. You don’t even have to be a member of the family to participate. My brother-in-law (non-Czech) has participated for several years though I haven’t been able to attend the golf tournament yet. I talked to the organizer yesterday at the reunion. It sounds like a blast!

Caritas (Caritas of Waco provides emergency/supplemental assistance in the form of food, clothing, household items, utility, medication, rent and mortgage, as well as travel assistance with few eligibility requirements.) will host the Greater Bohemian Open on July 26 at Battle Lake Golf Course. The unique four-person scramble event will feature various “surprise stroke requests” to spice up the competition. Entry fee is $60 per player, and sponsorship opportunities are available. For more information, contact David Hegar at (254) 715-7936

You don’t need to be a good golfer to play. The top 3 winners win a 7 course Czech dinner in a cooler – a 6-pack of beer and sausage.  Too funny! The 1st place winners are awarded the coveted jackets from Caritas. They pick the ugliest suit jackets donated to Caritas to give to the winners. The real prizes start with 4th place and are randomly given to groups after that, this year the second to last place even won a prize. Some of the “surprise strokes” include hitting a ball off the tee while sitting on a toilet. One hole you have to throw the ball on your second shot. Another “surprise stroke” is putting with a pool cue. There are many other surprise shots, but you’ll have to attend to learn about it. David said it is a chance to go out have fun, be Czech (drink beer or as my nephew says – drink beer, eat sausage, drink more beer, and drink more beer) and raise money for Caritas. They were able to raise somewhere in the neighborhood of $12,000.00 this year.

I hope many of you will think about joining in on the fun next year. I’ll send out reminders beginning in June about the Reunion and Golf Tournament.

                                SUNDAY, JULY 31, 2011

Cottonwood Hall in Cottonwood , TX (near West, TX)

700 South Czech Hall Road, West, TX

Cottonwood is on Farm Road 2114 four miles northeast of West in the northern corner of McLennan County . You can check the SPJST website for a map and directions.

The Hodslavice Reunion is for those who are descendents of families from Hodslavice , Czech Republic . Some of the family names are:

ADAM, BARTON, BYMA, HEGAR, HORAK, HROMADKA, JANEK, KRIZAN, KROMOLIS, KUDELKA, KUNETKA, MERENDA, PALACKY, RYDL, SVACEK, TOMAN, TUREK

The Hodslavice Family Reunion was started eight years ago to celebrate the lives of those from Hodslavice , Moravia , Czech Republic . Research has been done on several of the families listed above. Many of these families settled in the Weimar , TX (prior to 1880) and West, TX (from 1880) areas, but other areas of Texas and the U. S. have been identified as well. It is hoped that you will join us for this special event so we can hear your stories and make connections. Last year we were able to connect Charlie Kunetka (100 years old at the time) and his daughters with their cousins! You might be able to meet your family as well. Kathy Horak Smith (West, Texas connections) with the help of distant cousin Martin Pytr from the Czech Republic and Leon Anhaiser ( Weimar area connections) have extensive data bases of families from Hodslavice to possibly help you find your connections.

Please bring 2 covered dishes for Sunday’s lunch. Also bring family genealogical information and photos to exhibit and share. [Many of us have unidentified photos and you just may have the answer.] Door prizes will be given, so we ask for donations from families. A goodwill offering will be taken to help pay for expenses for the use of the hall and the mailing of the invitations. We will be holding this reunion in conjunction with the 39th Annual Hegar Reunion. They have graciously allowed us to share the facilities with them since they are part of the Hodslavice family and many of us have family connections already – Charlie did, but didn’t know it before last year!

Please pass this information on to your family and friends. We will continue to put together a database of descendents after the reunion.

Drop-ins are welcome, but to get a rough estimate of how many will be in attendance, please RSVP by Friday, July 29, 2011 to:
