He was born Aug. 20, 1922, in Wied, to the late Valentine and Aloisie Smolik Janak. He was a construction helper for Dan Janak's Construction Company in Flatonia and worked as a service store clerk. He had worked at the gin at Wied and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was a veteran of World War II and was a member of the KJT, Yoakum chapter of DAV and the Sweet Home chapter of the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corps and was sent to the mechanic school in Georgia to learn to repair trainer planes.
Survivors: daughter, Cordelia Rau of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Sophie Opela and Victoria Motal; and brothers, Steve Janak, Fred Janak, Nick Janak, Lukas Janak, Bohumil Janak, Paul Janak and Albert Janak.
Visitation will begin 11:30 a.m. today at Kubena Funeral Home chapel.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel and 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. John Peters officiating.
