      Obituary - Ruby Mae Schlechte

      Ruby Mae Schlechte, 94, of Bryan, passed away Dec. 5, 2002. She was born
      March 1, 1908 in Sempronius, Texas to Hugo and Lydia Malechek Ueckert.
      Ruby was baptized in Christian faith at Nelsonville Brethren Church. She
      attended Kenney I.S.D. and had completed the ninth grade, which she was
      very proud of.
      Ruby had married Edwin Schlechte in October of 1932 in Rosenburg, Texas.
      She had worked in the school cafeteria at Cypress-Fairbanks, so that her
      children would be able to attend college. She and her husband both
      retired from Cypress-Fairbanks some years later. Ruby was a charter
      member of Cypress United Methodist Church where she was a communion
      steward for many years. She and Edwin had moved to Bellville where she
      had worked in a local nursing home. She was a member of the Bellville
      United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, the Bellville Garden
      Clubs and AARP. Ruby and her husband were also active in Concordia
      Auxiliary, a German singing group. She was a member of the Brethren
      Church of Bryan-College Station.
      Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Lydia Ueckert; a
      brother, Jon W. Ueckert; and her husband, Edwin G. Schlechte.
      She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert E. and Iris Ann
      Schlechte of Bryan and J. LeRoy and Joyce Schlechte of Houston; daughter
      and son-in-law, Evelyn and the Rev. Dr. L.C. "Buddy" Johnston of Burnet;
      sister-in-law, Fern Ueckert of Austin; eight grandchildren; nine
      great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and
      nephews.
      Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Brethren Church of
      Bryan-College Station with the Rev. Joseph Polasek officiating. Graveside
      service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham.
      Memorials may be made to Brethren Church of Bryan-College Station,
      Crestview Retirement Community or charity of choice.
      Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Funeral Chapel, 2901 Texas
      Ave. South, College Station, Texas, (979) 694-8615.
