      Matejek Family Reunion 

      The 23rd annual Matejek reunion was held at the American Legion Hall located in Cuero on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002. David Strader of Inez gave the invocation before the noon meal. A short business meeting was held and those who had passed away during the year were remembered, including Chris Schoener, Victoria; Roy Jetel, Houston; George Henke, Hallettsville; Lottie Prukop, Inez; and Mrs. Joe Matejek III, Massachusetts.

      Prizes were awarded to the following: oldest lady, Helen Etzler of Hallettsville, 87 years; oldest gentleman, Walter Hemmi of Hallettsville, 90 years; youngest child, Peyton Raindl, 10 months, son of Laura and Mike Raindl from Shiner; longest married couple, Leo and Viola Henke of Hallettsville, 60 years; newest married, P.J. and Beverly Wegener of Gonzales, three weeksl; traveled farthest, Lisa Stephens from Tonopah, Ariz.; first-time attendee, Darlene Roy from Corpus Christi; door prize winner was Dawn Bostick of Kerrville; kids prizes went to Aaron Matejek, son of Patrick and Cindy Matejek from Yorktown, Peyton Raindl of Shiner, Sarah Matejek, daughter of LeeRoy Matejek of Corpus Christi and Callen Matejek, daughter of Carl and Sharon Matejek of Yorktown.

      The silent auction and the live auction were well supported and are to make money for the next reunion. Patrick Matejek of Yorktown and LeeRoy Matejek of Corpus Christi took care of the auctions.

      The domino tournament winners were Viola Henke of Hallettsville and LeeRoy Matejek of Corpus Christi, first place; and Jerome Bolum and Julia Carpenter, both of Yoakum, second place. Horseshoe winners were Jerome Bolum of Yoakum and Nelda Strader of Inez, first place; and Rudy Henke of Hallettsville and John Carpenter of Yoakum, second.

      There were four young domino players this year learning the game. First place went to Hayden Matejek and Tommie Lucas Jr., both of Cuero; second place were Aaron Matejek of Yorktown and Crayton Matejek of Cuero.

      The next reunion will be Oct. 19, 2003, at the American Legion Hall in Cuero.
