Philip Welhausen, lifelong resident of Yoakum, passed away on Friday,
February 28, 2003. Mr. Welhausen was born in Yoakum on May 14, 1912.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Philip Welhausen, Sr. and
Etta Welhausen, his sister, Melba Welhausen and his brother, Harry
Welhausen. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Evelyn Welhausen,
his daughter, Charlotte Wendt (Joe); 2 grandchildren, Diane Bandiga
(Bill); Paul Wendt (Stacey) and two great-grandchildren, Kyla Suzanne
Wendt and Katie Lynn Wendt; nephews and many friends.
Philip retired in July of 1975 after 41 years of continuous dedicated
service with Tex-Tan. Mr. Welhausen advanced from a rivet machine
operator in the factory to the Time Study Department. Later he served
as Cost Dept. Manager, Factory Manager and continued on to the
Presidency of Tex-Tan Western Leather Company; a position he held for
14 years until his retirement.
Philip will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband and father.
He was always there for his family. He loved to fish, work in his
workshop, do crossword puzzles and visit with his friends at the
Dairy Queen. He possessed a keen mind and was an astute businessman.
A life-long Christian and member of the First Baptist Church, he was
a man of unwavering faith and much generosity.
Services will be held at Buffington Funeral Home on Monday March 3,
at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Richard Bowden and Rev. Ellis Epps
officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Robert Taylor, Douglas Manning, Norman Kaiser, Jim
Witte, Meeks Rice and Jerrod Long.
Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice.
Family visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 till 7:00 p.m. at the
Buffington Funeral Home.
