Betty Selcer, age 85, of Wharton, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in
Wharton following a brief illness. She was born on Sept. 20, 1917, in
Fayetteville, the daughter of the late Emil Urbanovsky and Josephine
Mrs. Selcer was a 44-year resident of Wharton. She married Fred
Selcer on July 11, 1943, in Needville. She was a homemaker and worked
as a cook for Wharton Independent School District for 15 years until
her retirement in 1984. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic
Church and the Altar Society.
Funeral mass services were held 10 a.m. Thursday Feb. 27, at Holy
Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Vrana officiating. Interment
followed in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Rosary services were
held Wednesday evening at Wharton Funeral Home with Clarice Kutach
Survivors include her husband, Fred Selcer of Wharton; son, Robert
Raymond "Bobby" Selcer of Knoxville, Tenn.; brother, Joe Urbanovsky
and wife, Cassie, of Wharton; grandchildren, Michael Robert Selcer
and Kathryn Elizabeth Selcer. She was preceded in death by her
sister, Frances Legler, in 1968 and a brother, Bennie Urbanovsky, in
Pallbearers were Bennie Skrovan, Douglas Dusek, George Foytik, Edwin
Bucek, Joe Urbanovsky Jr., Tommy Urbanovsky and Ervin Kucera.
Honorary pallbearer was Tommy Urbanovsky.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family request memorials to Holy
Family Fellowship Committee, 2011 Briar Lane, Wharton, Texas 77488.
