George J. Kirst

NEW BRAUNFELS - George J. Kirst, 87, of New Braunfels, died Friday,
Dec. 27, 2002.
He was born Aug. 15, 1915, in Geronimo, to the late Joseph George and
Annie Steinbach Kirst. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and
served in WWII. He received a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and fought in
five major battles, including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He
was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and VFW Post No.
7110 where he was past Commander. He was a member of American Legion
Post No. 179, Sons of Hermann, Harmonia Lodge No. 1, Fraternal Order
of the Eagles and was a third degree knight in the Knights of
Columbus. He was a purchasing agent for Straus-Frank for over 35
years and a member of the Board of Directors.
Survivors: wife, Evelyn Kirst; daughter, Joyce Kirst of Dallas; son,
Carl Kirst of Victoria; sister, Leona Schuetz of New Braunfels; and
Preceded in death by: parents.
Visitation will begin 5 p.m. today at Doeppenschmidt Funeral Home
chapel in New Braunfels.
A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. tonight at the funeral home chapel.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
Church, the Msgr. Edward Bily officiating.
Burial with military honors will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic
