      HALLETTSVILLE - Irene Pauline Janak, 72, of Hallettsville, died
      Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002.

      She was born June 20, 1930, in DeWitt County, to the late Frank
      Jerome and Annie Pekar Chaloupka. She was a member of the Catholic
      Daughters of Americas, KJZT, Sierra Club, Ladies Auxiliary, VFW and
      Sacred Heart Church. She was a volunteer at local nursing homes.

      Survivors: husband, Richard J. Janak; daughters, Catherine Harmon of
      Hattiesburg, Miss., Linda Hemmi of Houston, Stefania Long of Weimar
      and Elaine Klekar of Hallettsville; sons, Albert Janak of Victoria,
      David Janak of El Campo and Timothy Janak of Hallettsville; sister,
      Lillie Woytek of Hallettsville; brothers, Charles Chaloupka of
      Hallettsville and Johnnie Chaloupka of Houston; 14 grandchildren; two
      step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one step-great-
      grandchild.

      Preceded in death by: parents; sisters, Annie Janak and Mary Tupa;
      brothers, Frank Chaloupka, Sam Chaloupka, Phillip Chaloupka and
      George Chaloupka; and grandchildren, Ashley Hemmi and Jermey Long.

      Visitation will be 3 p.m. Monday at Kubena Funeral Home chapel.

      A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Monday and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at
      Sacred Heart Church. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church,
      the Rev. John Peters officiating.

      Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Kubena Funeral Home,
      Hallettsville, 361-798-3271.
