Janie Fojtik Horelica, age 88, of Lane City, died Wednesday, May 29,
2002, in a Wharton nursing home. She was born Oct. 23, 1913, the
daughter of the late John and Julie Fojtik.
Mrs. Horelica married Joseph Horelica on Nov. 11, 1935, in Wharton.
He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 1949. She worked as a nurses
aide at Caney Valley Memorial Hospital prior to retiring in 1978.
Mrs. Horelica was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a
member of the Catholic Daughters and KJZT. She was a longtime
resident of Wharton County and loved to sew and crochet.
A funeral mass was held Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church with
Father Joe Vrana officiating. A Catholic Daughters rosary was recited
prior to the funeral mass. Burial followed in Wharton City Cemetery.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and Frank Koenig
of El Campo, Angie and Frank Jalufka of El Campo, Janice Burditt of
Wharton and Josephine Horelica of Warren; sister, Eleanora Hill of
Prairie Hill; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.
