      Mary Jo Taylor Bullard, age 79, of Wharton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at a Vitas Hospice Facility following a brief illness. She was born on Jan. 24, 1934 in Boling, a daughter of the late Albert Newton and Albina Davidek Taylor.


      Mary was reared in the Boling area and graduated from Boling High School. She later attended and graduated from nursing school at Wharton County Junior College. She married Charles Clifton Bullard on July 1, 1955 in El Campo. Charles preceded her in death on April 22, 1989. Mary Jo worked as an LVN for many nursing facilities including Edgewater in Galveston, Garden Villa in El Campo and Nightingale Hospital for many years. She enjoyed fishing and playing with her cats.  Mary was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in El Campo for many years.


      In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Warren Bothe; brothers-in-law, Jack Hausler and Bill Matcheskie.


      Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 2, at Wharton Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Mayer officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.


      Survivors include her daughters, Cherrie A. Bothe of Rosenberg and Pamela F. Sherrill of Arizona; sons, Charles A. Bullard of Wharton, Lloyd E. Bullard of Galveston and Jack Oliver of Rosenberg; grandchildren, Jason Bothe, Melissa Cadwell, Tony Sherrill, Tammy Sherrill, Randy Sherrill and Nicolas Sherrill; and her sisters, Barbara Matcheski and Shirley Hausler.


      Funeral services are under the direction of Wharton Funeral Home.
