      James G. Vana Sr. of Austin, formerly of Flatonia, passed away Monday, Sept.3 at the age of 82.


      He was born in Schulenburg on May 4, 1930 to the late William and Mary (Machac) Vana. Mr. Vana was member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church and a Korean War Veteran.


      He is survived by his wife, Maxine Kunschik Vana of Austin; two sons, Jim Vana Jr. and wife Cindi of Austin, and Ron Vana of Austin; one daughter, Jo Lynn Ayala and husband John of Buda; one brother, Alfonse Vana of Victoria; one sister, Juanita Bruce of Houston; three grandchildren, Shanna Ayala, John Anthony Ayala Jr. and Stephen Ayala; one great-grandson, Jacob Michael John; and numerous nieces and nephews.


      He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and two sisters.


      Graveside services were held on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at 10 a.m. at Cistern Catholic Cemetery, with Rev. Eddie Winkler officiating.
