      Sister Stephanie Slovak, age 77, a Sister of Divine Providence, entered eternal life on August 22, 2010. Born in Ennis, Texas on July 31, 1933, she made first profession as a Sister of Divine Providence at 19 years of age. Sister Stephanie began her ministerial life in 1952 in the dietary department at Providence High School, San Antonio. During her 30 years ministering in dietary, she served in schools in Louisiana and Texas. Sister Stephanie touched many lives through her love and devotion to dietary service. While on mission in rural areas children would come to the convent bringing vegetables and fruits from their family gardens, and she would reward them with cookies, thus earning her the nickname the "Cookie Sister." In 2000 Sister retired to Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center.


      Sister Stephanie is survived by her brother Raymond and sister-in-law Helen, her sister Steavy and brother-in-law Alfred Jakubik, her brother John L. and sister-in-law Gracie, and her sister Doris Dunkerley, and numerous nieces and nephews.


      She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Stephanie Holy Slovak; and her brother-in-law, Larry Dunkerley.


      Rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. and the Wake will be at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2010. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. All services will be in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to make a memorial contribution to the Sisters of Divine Providence at 515 S.W. 24th Street, San Antonio, TX 78207-4619. Arrangements by:
