Deceased Name: MSGT Douglas L. NikelMSGT Douglas L. Nikel, U.S.A.F., retired, gave his heart to the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the age of 83. He was born in San Antonio on July 22, 1924 to Frank and Irene Nikel. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and camper, who loved traveling. Douglas was an Original Charter Member of the Texas Air National Guard, the Bluebonnet Masonic Lodge #409, the Scottish Rite and the York Rite, and the Schriners.Douglas was preceded in death by his loving wife Mary Frances Nikel. He is survived by his children Phillip J. Nikel and wife Barbara of Portland, TX, Don Nikel and wife Jan of Cibolo, TX, Connie Nikel Schnuriger of Kingsbury, TX; grandchildren, Chad M. Nikel and wife Gayle of Chicago, IL, Christy Tupaj and husband Dave of Corpus Christi, TX, Kelly Reiber and husband Derek of Cairo, Egypt, Lisa James and husband Leighton also of Corpus Christi, TX, Marly Schnuriger of Rockport, TX; great-grandsons, Wyatt and Logan James, David and Troy Tupaj, Issac and Guideon Reiber; brothers, Arbell Nikel and wife Brenda, LaCaze Nikel; and special friend, Peggy Wright Amox.SERVICES Visitation will be held at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19th, with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m., Rev. William "Boney" Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park South. If one desires, a memorial in Douglas's name may be made to the American Heart Society.
