Lions, tigers and bears cheer on 5K
The 5-kilometer road race during the Gay Games will have a  unique setting - the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. The Gay Games just announced it is working with the zoo to host the 5K event on Thursday, 14 August.
The course for the 10K (on Tuesday, 12 August) will be announced this fall.
Runners participating in the Half-Marathon and Marathon will be on the first half of the prestigious Akron Marathon race course. Want to take a "practice" run? The Akron Marathon is less than a month away. For more information on that event, click here.
To register for the 5K and be cheered on by lions, tigers and bears, or to sign up for any other running event in the 2014 Gay Games, click here.
      Event Spotlight: Band
Jadine Louie and Laura Blake will serve as artistic directors of the band events at the 2014 Gay Games. The Lesbian and Gay Band Association made the recent announcement, noting the two were selected from a talented group of candidates.
Louie will serve as artistic director of the concert band, while Blake will take the helm as artistic director of the marching band.
Read more about the style and background of the artistic directors here.
Band participants have the opportunity to play in opening ceremony, the gala band concert and possibly other events.

      Participant Profile: Bill Doyle
Bill Doyle has had a passion for sailing for more than 25 years and lives in a city where sailing is THE sport - Newport, Rhode Island. Bill and his partner, Jed, first participated in sailing at the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney then returned to Chicago ('06). In 2010, they sailed as Team Newport in Cologne (the Netherlands actually).
"Throughout the week, we were mediocre at best, but for the finals we applied everything we learned ... we again took home the gold. This surprised everybody — including us! Read Bill's story here.
Whether you're a first-time participant or someone who's competed in every Gay Games, we want to share your story and inspire others. Use the "Share Your Story" tab on our Facebook page or email us at info@....
      Spotlight on Cleveland+Akron
Every year, hamburger fans flock to Akron for the National Hamburger Festival. Sure, they have hamburgers but they also have unique activities - bobbing for burgers anyone? (They're in a pool filled with ketchup, of course.) Read Huffington Post's experience this year and you can be part of next year's too.
The Gay Games marathon finish line will be the National Hamburger Festival.
For more information on Akron-area attractions visit www.visitakron-summit.org.
Every summer, the skies are alive with the sound of music in Northeast Ohio. It could be Wade Oval Wednesdays (free evening concerts on the pond outside the Cleveland Art Museum and a few blocks from GG9 events at Case Western Reserve University) or Sundays in many community parks like Lakewood (just west of Cleveland - site of figure skating and the biking criterium). And if you're looking to hear the world famous Cleveland Orchestra, head to their summer home of Blossom Music Center. 2014 schedules will be announced next year.
