Hi, I just joined the group so I thought I'd introduce myself.

I'm currently a master's student in Library and Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh, and will be graduating in December.  My research interests involve indexing, classification, and controlled vocabularies.  This semester I'm focusing on digital libraries, ontologies and mapping - especially in the realm of archaeological and cultural heritage data.  There were not as many classes on these topics as I would have liked, so I'm trying to learn as much as I can through workshops, independent study, and by reaching out to professionals.  I don't currently work in taxonomy development, but I intend to pursue this type of work after I graduate.

I'm currently employed as a library specialist (paraprofessional) at the University of Pittsburgh's Business Library, which serves the Katz Graduate School of Business.  I can be reached at tlb39@... or tricia.burmeister@...

      Nice to meet you.

        Hello all,

I'm a new group member. I attended one of Seth's workshops at DocTrain in Lowell, MA, a couple of years ago, and I have often turned to his company's site as a resource. I learned about TaxoCoP while listening to a recorded presentation that I had downloaded from the site.

I'm currently the Managing Editor and Content Strategist for a federal website project. One of my responsibilities is to work with the Information Architect to refine our taxonomy, facets, and metadata. Although my background isn't specifically in this subject area, I have a great interest in it and have read a number of related books.

I was also a technical writer for the the Enterprise Vocabulary Services Group at the National Cancer Institute for a couple of years. My work supported their thesaurus-building tools and the underlying databases.

I look forward to learning from you.

        Best Regards,
        Eddie

          Eddie,

You have obviously put a lot of effort in to learning something that was not intrinsically part of your background. Most of the time, that is all it takes to become more than proficient in a given field. That being said, I am sure that, due to your level of research, experience and sweat-equity, we all will also learn from you. Welcome to the group.

          Kevin
