      Data Librarian/Data Specialist

      Reports to: Mai Dinh, Senior Editor, People.com

      PEOPLE.com is seeking a Data Librarian/Data Specialist with experience
      in or knowledge of celebrity and entertainment. This person's primary
      role will be data entry and tagging of daily content for PEOPLE.com.

      The scope of responsibilities includes authority control of database
      language and control of content tagging; supervising and training of
      data entry specialists and editorial staff to properly tag content;
      extensive documentation of all aspects of job including training
      manuals and database procedures; regularly audit and improve workflow
      practices; effectively communicate and coordinate with technical,
      business and editorial staff. The Data Librarian/Data Specialist
      will work with Time Inc. Interactive's Sr. Data Librarian to help
      maintain the use of a proprietary ontology and metadata management
      tool, which will be integrated with the web product publishing system.
      Additional duties will require work (i.e. research, fact-checking) on
      a project by project basis

      Required Qualifications:

      * 3-5 years working in the Library/Information Science or digital
      asset management field
      * Substantial knowledge of and experience with the development of
      digital and online resources, including databases and online
      publishing systems
      * Extensive knowledge of celebrity and entertainment industry
      * Management and training experience and demonstrated capacity to work
      effectively with editorial and information resources staff
      * Demonstrated professional accomplishments relevant to the
      responsibilities of the position
      * Ability to perform effectively and contribute successfully to a
      diverse, multicultural workplace
      * Evidence of the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and
      in writing
      * Evidence of success in project leadership and program management, as
      well as evidence of flexibility and enjoyment of collaborative endeavors
      * Familiarity with the technical aspects of the preparation, encoding,
      mark-up, and debugging of digital texts

      Preferred Qualifications:

      * An MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited library school or the
      equivalent in training and experience
      * Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in the field of ontologies
      and knowledge representation
      * Experience working on consumer-facing web sites or applications
      * Experience with XML related technologies: RDF/RDFS/DAML/OWL
      * Experience building or modifying schemas using RDF/RDFS/DAML/OWL
      * Familiar with other industry standards (DC, PRISM)
      * Familiar with Descriptive Logic and reasoners
      * Familiar with the core concepts of the Semantic Web
