Subject: request for help from the Scouts of the Tar River District.
Milton Fields approached me at Kiwanis today and asked if the Scouts could help with the YAM JAM on Saturday, October 1, at 8 AM. Yam Jam's purpose is to glean sweet potatoes from the local farms for chairtable use. Yam Jam started about 13 years ago from a few pick-up loads to as many as sixty thousand pounds by estimate. Due to the bad economic times, demands for all types of food have increased. This year the goal has been placed at One Hundred Thousand pounds. This field donated by the Tyson family, is just about two miles north of Nashville. The First Christian Church wants the Scouts to help starting at 8 AM.
Directions to this farm: From Highway 64 take Exit 459 (Nashville-Castalia exit) go north two (2) miles on Highway 58. Watch for signs.
