  • Thanks Tom. Since you posted, I have started looking for any reference in records to a Dr. Horner...and am having no luck...he is flying under the radar. My next stop is the land records. • Question to the experts... I have seen references to General Rodman passing away in Hagerstown, and in "a home near Hagerstown". I believe he died on September 30. Anybody know for a fact where he passed? If he did die in Hagerstown, that's one more thing to put in my pile of Hagerstown stories. Thanks. Steve

  • Would anyone in the group have a copy of the photo of Douglas, dressed in his Major's uniform, standing next to a young lady, that you would be willing to allow the City of Hagerstown to make a copy of for use in a documentary for our city government's cable TV channel? Or let me know where there might be a copy? Would Antietam have a copy? Should I call Keith at the Park? Thanks...

  • Friends: In my study of all things Hagerstown in the 19th Century military, I become more and more fascinated by Douglas...CS vet, founder of Hagerstown's National Guard Company, Adj Gen of the MNG. He seems to be someone you either love or hate. I hear all the jokes about "Stonewall Rode With Me" and the criticism that he embellished his stories. yet "I Rode With Stonewall" is...

  • Antietam folks.. This is a little off topic, but in the same ballpark (Washington County Military History). I have located the uniform of Captain George L. Fisher, commander of Company B, 1st Maryland Infantry, Spanish-American War. Consists of the M1895 blue tunic and sky blue trousers with white stripe. Company B was the Hagerstown company of the Maryland National Guard. The 1st...

  • Greetings, folks. The City of Hagerstown has recently produced a documentary for its cable television station. It is entitled "Valor in the Streets: The Battle of Hagerstown". This 30-minute video relates the story of the July 6, 1863 Battle of Hagerstown, likely the largest urban cavalry battle of the war, which occurred on the retreat from Gettysburg. It is modeled on the old...

  • Folks: The Hager House had a speaker lined up to talk on the Irish Brigade on the 17th, but plans fell through. Would there be anyone interested in picking this up? There would be a $100 honorarium for the assistance. If none are available on that subject, given the last minute nature, they may be amenable to changing the subject to accommodate the speaker. I'd do it myself, but I...

  • Larry... Thanks...the Google books version is definitely better than my version, and I think I can use it....but if anybody had a hard copy, I would be very appreciative if they would share it. But...I can work with this...Thanks, Larry. Steve --- On Sat, 2/5/11, eighth_conn_inf wrote: From: eighth_conn_inf Subject: [TalkAntietam] Re: Anybody have this book? To: TalkAntietam@^$1...

  • The 1909 Regimental history of the 18th PA Cav, written by three of its officers? There are photos in the book that I would like to scan for use in video the City is doing on the Battle of Hagerstown. My copy is a digital copy of a photocopy I bought off Ebay (you get what you pay for for $5). I would like to find a good copy to scan, if someone has one locally. My version doesn't...

  • Ian and others... Thank you for the guidance on this issue. I will let the issue slide. A shame, as I was thinking about proposing a small exhibit in City Hall to commemorate the GAR hall that was within the predecessor building. I wonder who has the embossing tool.....hmmm. What kind of loon would fake GAR stuff? Steve Bockmiller --- In TalkAntietam@^$1, Ian Workman wrote: > > I...
