      Antietam National Battlefield is looking for volunteers to help plant trees and wildflower seedlings. These plantings are part of the battlefield's efforts to restore historic scenes, stabilize stream banks, improve water quality, reduce invasive vegetation, and provide wildlife habitat.



      Tree planting will take place on the following Saturday mornings: October 30; November 6, 13, & 20



      For more information, contact Chris Tawney at 301-432-2243 extension 27, or by e-mail.



      Wildflower planting will take place on the following Saturday mornings: October 16, 23; November 13



      For more information, contact Debbie Cohen at 301-432-2243 extension 13, or by e-mail. Antietam National Battlefield will provide all needed equipment; however, participants are asked to dress for the weather, bring a water bottle, and wear sturdy shoes or boots. In addition, leather work gloves are highly recommended. These planting projects will take place rain or shine.



      All volunteers are welcome! If you plan to participate, come to the Visitor Center around 8:45 AM and meet with the appropriate rangers. The planting projects will run from approximately 9:00 AM till 12 noon. If you are a student needing community service hours, bring your paperwork with you and battlefield staff will ensure that your efforts are recorded.
