Or "Great Cardinals moments of the 2004 World Series".

And you can't say anything about the Pirates that I haven't already
      heard
      (or said).

World's thinnest books: McClellan champions who still believe that 191
      mattered.

      Steve,

Do you realize you've just gone from fair and balanced reviewer to
      insane
McClellan apologist in one fell swoop?

      Jeff,

I appreciate that you presume me to be knowledgeable on this subject,
but I am actually quite the newbie. I would personally give more weight
to a review by Tom Clemens, who opined that the book is the most
      balanced he has seen.

As I read this book, I find that the author makes a convincing case for
me to, at the least, reconsider my view of Mac's actions during the
Maryland Campaign. The way things unfolded actually makes more sense to
me now that I have read an account that sees Mac as more than a boorish
      dullard.

I certainly did not mean to imply that the author is taking the
contrary view simply to be contrary. I think he makes an interesting
case. And I would certainly be interested to hear you make, and defend,
the point of view that Rafuse is off base - after you have read the
      book.

      Cheers,
      Stephen

I read the book too, and thought the mention of the K-N Act was
tangental to the theme. Rafuse was discussing McClellan's shift from a
tradtional Whig to a Douglas Democrat, and IIRC, Jim wanted a discussion
of the inconsistency of that shift due to Douglas' sponsoring of the K-N
Act. Rafuse does talk about it later, in the context of Lincoln, but it
cannot be fairly said that Rafuse ignores or leaves it out. It just was
not as emphasized as Jim thought it should be. Fair criticism, but not
        an indictment of the author.

OK....are they dealt with in any detail? One of Jim's criticisms (he
READ the book, you know) was that Rafuse didn't raise some questions on
some topics that probably should have been raised.
