Group Description

Traditional Small Craft of Raleigh

This group is for traditional and non-traditional wooden boat builders, sailors, rowers, and paddlers in and around Raleigh, NC

We welcome anyone interested in Building, boating and messing about in small craft be it sailing, motoring, canoeing, kayaking, or rowing. Topics relevant to messing about in small boats with or without sails are allowed. The members’ boats here consist of small craft such as dinghies, skiffs, dories, prams, sailing canoes, and car toppers. With most members boats at 20 feet or less being of traditional wooden type designs built using modern methods and materials. Boats with various sail plans are all welcomed as long as the wind moves it. Crews can consist of spouses, children, pets, relatives and friends.

Group activities are of a non-racing recreational venue with on the water sail-abouts, raft-ups, games, dinghy cruising, overnighters, picnics, and an occasional coastal adventure. Onshore activities consist of socials at local taverns or pubs. Different Triangle (Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, RTP) inland local lake venues are supported such as at Jordan Lake, Kerr Lake, Falls Lake, Lake Wheeler, and Crabtree Lake. Group members may choose to travel to other state park lakes in NC, SC, and VA as well.

Any boating activity or event associated with group members is by personal responsibility whereas each skipper acknowledges the inherent risks related to boating and sailing and agree that it is their sole responsibility to decide whether to participate in the event accepting all the risks and responsibilities of their participation. Proper equipment is essential for your safety on the water. Wear your life preserver. Follow the “Col Regs rules of the road”. Ask if you are unclear about these rules.
